As some of you know, I have a tack shop, and one topic that usually generates some spirited discussion is thrush and what products do, or don't work to eliminate it.

What most people do not realize is that thrush is a blanket term for a variety of funguses that can infect the hoof. Not all funguses (errrr - fungi) are sensitive to the same chemicals. The infections are all pretty easy to identify by the black moist "muck" with that very distinctive pungent odor that accompanies the ...

Hi Guys,

It's that time - Fall/pre Winter chores! Colorado just had a major snow storm !

1) Check winter blankets for repairs and fit BEFORE your horse is standing in front of you shivering in 13 degree weather. If you need a new blanket, measure your horse...it is really stressful for the clerk at the tack shop to figure out which blanket to sell you for a horse that may or may not 15 hh. Measure from the center of the chest, along his/her body to the center of the tail....that ...

I was wondering if anyone has had a horse with a thoroughpin. My 3 year old gelding got kicked about 3 wks ago and developed a thoroughpin. I had him x-rayed and there were no fractures. The vet said that it was permanent and not to worry about it. He isn't lame but I was wondering if there is any way of treating this. Also wondering if I show him under saddle if this will be counted against me even if he is sound.

Ok, all you in Arizona around Phoenix, I need some recommendations for a new shoer. My horses are arriving this weekend and I'm going to need a shoer pretty soon for my Appy gelding. Yup, threw a shoe just before the big haul!!! To be honest, I HATE looking for a good shoer!!!LOL Have to be extremely patient for an old broodmare that has been in horrific accident some time in her life. She's 24. Her legs are a mess!!! And she can't take too much as far as holding them up for long, so ...

Do you use it to help bring weight up in a growing two year old? I have one who seems to always show ribs & I don't want to pump too much grain into them for fear of future problems. I thought about using beet pulp along with grain to keep weight on for this horse, doesn't look bad but I just hate seeing ribs. Any opinions/input is much appreciated

This was reccommended to me about a year ago, just over I think. I had an injured horse, I was looking for ways to help promote healing and to keep infection away.

My filly had punctured her tendon sheath on one of her back legs, pastern area. She spent a week at the clinic and 6 weeks on stall rest. We used this on the wound. The prognosis for a tendon sheath injury/infection is only a 5% chance of a full recovery. The filly is now 100% sound and full of herself.

I got Classy last Sept. We got her home and I had the farrier out... Well, we discovered that Classy had White Line Disease extremely bad in one front foot and a little of it in the other front foot.

So we resectioned the hoof, treated the WLD, and then used an new acrylic substance to rebuild the hoof wall. My farrier is now on a 'watch list' because of her using the new acrylic mixture. It was a huge mess to get this stuff, but man does it work beyond our expectations. We did NOT have ...

In preparation for Scottsdale, I am considering whether to shoe or not. Our SH and Hunter Pleasure horse will go barefoot. I have one 2 year old halter horse and a 2 year old SH that will also show liberty. What is the trend for shoeing? Do most shoe their 2 year olds? My liberty horse had nice movement when she wants to. Possibly the future makings of a CEP horse. Should I put pads/shoes on her?
