Hello,

I was browsing the new members' introductions and was struck by the number of members who do not show, or who do show only on a limited basis. There is nothing wrong with either situation as long as you are ultimately enjoying your horses. I for one, am currently not showing. I go to tons of horse shows, but instead of hauling a horse, I am hauling the tack shop trailer. My perfectly good CEP gelding is now my perfectly good stress-reducing psychologist and physical therapist. ...

Should Shows Eliminate Halter Classes

There has been some scuttlebutt floating around that some committees are considering the elimination of halter classes at their shows. Halter classes are poorly supported, shows schedule for them but end up with "dead time" and the expense of ribbons that are not used. Since I am not actively showing at this time, this is still just rumor as far as I am concerned, but what do you folks that are showing hear and think about the possibility.

I thought it would be interesting for us to post the names of ammy friendly judges. Please post the names are why they are ammy friendly.

I'll start with two:

Alstair Buchanan - sport horse. He is very positive and encouraging. He gives helpful tips as to how to better present your horse. His written comments are useful and accurate.

Margaret Rich - community shows. Margaret has judged two of my club's community shows. She's real positive and encouraging. She gives good verbal ...

Has anyone shown halter this year at a show that used the exit the ring procedure where one horse is in the ring at a time and when it is done with judging, it exits the ring? I've wanted to show using this procedure but I don't think many shows will use it.

Tasha,

Would you please explain to me the ins and outs of the amateur classes? I was excited over participating in the amateur classes, but it seems they may not truly be "amatueur."

What is up with "amateurs" showing horses they don't truly own in the AAOTR classes?

I'm not finding a clear answer in the rules about how the classes work.

AHA Halter Scoring System

Last year, two young California horses, Del's colt Premo and my filly Zofia were the poster children for the scoring system on another forum. I started the thread and Del jumped in later. Our horses were supported by some and trashed by others. I haven't shown in halter this year and I was wondering how things are going with the new system. I you've shown in halter this year, please post some comments. What I'm really interest in is how ammys are doing both in ammy and open halter.

So for those of you a little lost on what this section of the Ammy Army forum is all about, I will do my best to explain. This section has been made avaliable so that we can discuss the "hot" topics effecting amateur exhibitors. This doesn't mean the gossip or he-said-she-said nonsense, but the issues currently affecting how we as amateurs (and youth!) enjoy out horses within the Arabian horse industry. The point of the Army is to have a group of amateurs supporting each other, this ...
