PostSubject: stallion ideas for possible lease mare...   Fri Mar 06, 2009 5:59 am

I have been offered a lease on a large pony mare who's main reason for leasing would be for my 5 year old to ride. I am planning on going ahead with the lease because my daughter adores the mare. If she does come to live here, I would also look at breeding her to an arabian stallion for MY next WP/Trail horse.

Can anyone recommend an arabian stallion known for throwing WP type horses? I have been away from arabians for so long now, that I don't really quite know where to start looking. She is an unspotted amber champaign POA mare, and is very araby in build. I would need the stallion to be able to throw a deep, well sloped hip, because it is this mare's weakness. She is 13.3 hands, and I want to produce something in the 14-15 hand range. I like them small. Smile

Thanks in advance,
Megan

I already posted to your WP thread, but this makes it more dear to my heart! POA makes a great cross with Arabians! I showed POAs for a couple of years for some friends of mine - high point of which was fitting and showing the 2001 World Champion 2 Year Old Colt for them. The nice thing about POA is that you can also register your H/A foal as a POA. As of the last POA convention, they are finally opening up some classes for adult riders. So now you can look forward to twice the fun with your foal. The people who show POA are as a whole really nice folks. The only issue you might encounter would be if your foal ends up going overheight. 14H is the upper limit for POA show purposes.

Our senior stallion has produced some very nice foals from our Crabbet mares (13.2 and 13.3 hands). They all have good hind ends, nice movement and temperaments. They will mature in the 14.2-14.3 range. They could compete WP, although we do SHIH/Dressage/Hunter showing. Here are a couple of photos of our fillies. Both as 2 year olds. His regular stud fee for non-Arabian/half-Arabian mares is $750, will offer Ammy Army discount breeding for $600.
