Although my boy is not yet here (being shipped from Perry Arabians in Utah to me in Texas) I am so enthusiastic about my plans for him already! I want him to settle down for a little while before working on basic ground manners. I am looking to join local breed clubs as I did when I showed an APHA colt to perhaps go to clinics and what not for showing in the Arabian breed shows if they are done. If not then I think it would be a wonderful idea. Anyhow, he'll make a great riding horse after his halter career and this vastly pleases me truth be told. He's got the build and bloodlines to easily do both! I hope to win a scholarship or two as I am a nineteen year old college student with him. Whatever works. I got my dream horse! You truly do not have to breed to find them. I promise they are out there. I am looking for whatever help I can get and am very open minded. I want to see what this breed association is all about and learn to show in it and become as involved as possible! As long as I can remember I have longed to own an Arabian horse. If you work toward your dreams and goals they can be made real. I never once thought I could stumble upon such a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am lovestruck and haven't even met him in person yet. Katherine Kerr recommended this group to me. She is such a wonderful person and is the reason (the breeders of course being a great help, but I wouldn't have known without her post on ABN about these colts) I have this colt to begin with. You can't possibly know anybody sweeter than her! Very cool lady. Oh, how did I forget this? He's a RSD Dark Victory son out of a Magnum Psyche daughter (Magnums-Anastasia).

That is so cool! Are there any clubs closer to where you are? I am wanting to learn the works of halter showing for Arabs and start from there. I just know QH/Paint halter protocol at the moment sadly. If not I can try begging my farrier who trained a stallion who went to the Egyptian Event a year ago for some pointers... Ahahaha. Would be neat to meet you at a show or something!

I'll have to check up on his condition when he arrives - he gets afull day of rest before coming home if not two to recover from the longer leg of the trip. I know he has a baby belly that a very short 2 minutes on the line each way always is able to fix. He's just been sitting pretty so has to learn it all aside from leading and tying!

Take your time! I just got my boy in May, just had him gelded (last week), and am starting to show him in November. You may also want to just take a ride up to some shows to see what's out there and learn a little about how Arabian shows work!

Will do! I will start small with just a basic open show or two then move on to some breed shows most likely. It's how I worked my way up to San Antonio with an APHA colt! It was and still is a good tactic to attend clinics and watch at shows for sure.

Thanks! This is such a friendly community. Just what I needed to join whenever I have specific questions if my farrier isn't handy (he has trained professional halter with Arabs).

Depending on how long ago he trained, halter has changed. The basic stance is the same, but how the presentation is done has changed.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I hope that I will as well. I am lucky to have my boy kept at a longtime breeder and owner's facility so I learn a lot from her as well. Just joined the A.R.A.B.S region 9 club. Going to my first meeting this weekend.

How exciting!!...that should be alot of fun...there is alot you can learn by joining a group like that...the colaborative efforts of everyone giving advice is priceless! I wish you alot of success!

Yep...doesn't hurt at all! lol...*sigh* some people have all the luck! LOL...at 19 I was a new mom and not doing anything horsey at all!

Del (our Commander) has written out step-by-step halter training procedures under the halter training section of the Ammy Army forum.

I would suggest you copy and paste them into a word document and print and study them. If you follow them step by step, you will be showing your colt like a pro in no time!
