| Last year's Scottsdale Ammy Army experience was that of a lifetime and I know that 2010 will be just as fun, especially meeting and sharing with new Army members!
Let me officially introduce myself to those new folks who haven't met me yet. My name is Rebecca and I own and manage McShane Arabians in Hesperia, CA. *Noble Lord JP is my dream stallion and was blessed to show him to a Scottsdale Top 5 Freestyle Liberty last year. I honestly couldn't have done it without the support from the Army!!
Ok, so I will take the initiative to start this thread and maintain it until Scottsdale. This thread will include a list of names of people going to Scottsdale who plan on stabling together with the Ammy Army. Like last year, either I or another member will be responsible for collecting everyone's entries so they can be mailed together in one packet to make it easier for the show secretaries. The ENTRY DEADLINE IS: DECEMBER 15, 2009. So it is important that the responsible person receives everyone's packets PRIOR to the deadline date so that person can mail everything together BY the deadline. This will ensure that we are all stabled together. If you prefer to mail in your own entry, feel free to do so, however, only those entries that were mailed together will be guaranteed being stabled together. You can write "stable with Ammy Army" on your entry form and hopefully the show staff can put us all together anyway.
One thing we did last year was share costs, ie: hospitality room, redwood bark, other decorations. The Army acquired a "Hospitality Room" where we kept tables, microwave, tv, toaster, etc...it was a community room that we all greeted guests, ate, drank, sat and visited. After we know how many people are going, the dollar amount each person will contribute will be calculated and announced PRIOR TO ENTRIES BEING SENT TO JEROME. The room is not mandatory, but was really nice to have to hang out.

| It sure was nice to have that hospitality room, plus Rebecca had everything, but the kitchen sink! We had TV/DVD combo, micro, coolers, tons of food (thanks again to Rebecca!), water, etc. The support and help that was there was fantastic! We kind of got a crash corse in show clipping/grooming, but learned and retained everything. We even had a JTR ammy that helped me to braid my boy's tail for his championship class! And, Monique was incredible to help school and coach me under saddle and when I came out of the ring too! Plus, Jerome taught me how to do hooves properly and do the full face clip! I sure hope we can make it down again this time. | |

| Yes, the crash course was amazing...though I already knew how to clip, it was the fine details that Monique and Christine Rosseau helped with that made all the difference for me..and of course Jerome helped be my catch partner in *Noble Lord's Liberty Class!...couldn't have done it without him!! LOL...I'll be bringing everything but the kitchen sink again I'm sure! I just love having my hot cocoa and toast in the morning!
Come on Ammy Army....LET'S GO TO SCOTTSDALE AGAIN!

| Sounds GREAT Jerome!...I will add your info to the post above with mine...I will continue to monitor this thread and you can be the point person to receive the entries from everyone who choses to participate! I'm hoping we get the same spot we did last year as it was very ideal...we had lots of room to move around and present horses, access to 2 round pens, and a great view of the mountains! - halterhoss wrote:

| Count me in! I am still trying to decide on the number, but for now I have:
Two SSS Auction Yearling Fillies One Yearling Filly One 1/2 arab yearling filly One Purebred 2 yr old colt
possibly a couple more, if I can find the time.
Does everyone get their own tack/groom room? or do we share one or two?
I will be staying in my LQ horse trailer on the grounds when I can.
Body clip pointers would be an awesome help.
What were your approx expenses for last year, just so I can have an idea for the redwood chips and lounge room, etc.?

| Ok...I will put your horse number information up on the list. It looks like 5 stalls so far!? Last year we did split costs like feed room, dressing room, etc...but it got a little confusing with the money thing. So for right now it looks like each person is doing their own tack/stall, but if you want to split costs with someone, then you can work it out with them who the money goes with for that extra room to make sure the entries still get to Jerome in time to mail by the deadline. There will be lots of folks there that can help you with clipping when you're there! I'll have to check with Dimitri how many bags it took...we can ask each person to bring a few bags from the local hardware store. - Oak Meadow Arabians wrote:

| Alright. Community wise we will need 1 hospitality room, 1 feed room and 1 changing room (where people hang their clothes to keep clean). The charge for these 3 stalls will get evenly divided by the number of owners showing. Everybody is responsible to put a tack room on their entry form if they want one or make arrangements with another Ammy Army Member if they want to share one. I think that will clear up the confusion with the tack rooms from last year. We will need lumber, bark and some plants to dress up the hospitality room. Last year we spend about $500 on these items. I suggest that we come up with an agreed amount to spend on decorations and that amount will also be divided by the amount of owners. We have plenty of stall drapes and an easy up that we used last year to dress up the area so there are no expenses for that. Del, when will you be arriving with the AA drapes or should you ship them to us?? My address is 699 33 3/4 Road Clifton, CO 81520 970-986-8579 email is jeromestrack@aol.com Please us my email address direct to get in contact with me. A quick counts tells me we are already up to 15 stalls with everyting we need. If I recall, there are 10 stalls in a row so if we continue at this rate we might fill up 3 rows Let's make the AA stalls a place to visit for everybody!!!! Jerome ps. Once I figure out how to change my profile on here it no longer will say Tucson, AZ | |

| Hi Jerome....I'm wondering with the economy as bad as it is if there is a way we can decorate economically?? I know I've had to suffer a 10% pay cut and will be showing on shoestring budget. There may be a chance that I might be able to supply some used lumber from my husband's company where he is a project manager. They build bridges and freeways and always have leftover lumber...so to try and help cut costs we can use that...but I won't know if any is available until closer to Feb. Can you or Del tell me how much of what size you used to build the drape frames? I'm also wondering if it would be cheaper for each person to bring several bags of redwood bark with them rather than buy it at a higher cost at the showgrounds? What are your thoughts? | |

| Hi Rebecca, I hear you about the economy. In actually, thinking about it, the lumber and bark for the hospitality room wasnt all that expensive. We need maybe $50 worth of lumber and the bark we can get at Lowes or Home Depot, we dont need to buy that at the show grounds. If you recall, Del and I build that wall in front of our stalls to shield the horses and give them some rest, In all honestly, if I decide to do that again then I should bear the cost of that, not the rest of the AA. What I do like to avoid though is that the AA stalls look like Sanford and Son Just because we are Ammy's doesnt mean we shouldn't put our best foot forward and make it look like a million bucks on a $100 budget. So let's just figure out how much we need to decorate the hospitality room in lumber and bark and decide on that amount. A bag a bark cost just as much in Scottsdale as in Apple Valley... As to the lumber, we need some 2 x 4's - 8ft long and 2 x 4's - 10 ft long for the AA drapes... If we have to wait until everybody gets there bringing their own lumber we will never get the place decorated. Unfortunately , the lumber from last year didnt make the move from Tucson to CO.. the trucks were full. | |

| Oh I wholeheartedly agree that it shouldn't look like Sanford and Son...funny you should use that phrase...I use it all the time at work when I do my inspections on people's properties! hehe! I wonder if there could be a way to get a local nursery to donate flowers if we advertise for them?...I think I've seen that done before. Whose tan easy up was in front of the hospitality room and I wonder if we can use it again...I might have an easy up a 10 x 10, but I'd need help putting it up, last time my promo folders got wet in front of *NL's stall after it rained!. And I'll go through my lights...I should have tons of white Christmas mini lights. - halterhoss wrote:

I am freaking at the expense of the entries. We need at least two dressage tests, Sport Horse stallion classes, and Sport Horse under saddle, plus I'm paying his rider, who is a pro (is that o.k.? with you guys?), the travel, etc. We still need one motel room. Our trailer is just a four horse with a big tack room. Never done Scottsdale, so any and all hints will be appreciated!

| I won't be bringing horses this year (pregnant mare and I'm not sure what my job situation will be at that time--I'll be joining you next year though, count on it!) but I wanted to suggest that you guys might make a list of everything you think you might need for decoration and the shared rooms. I bet some of it is stuff people already have and would be willing to bring with them. For instance, I carry four 7 ft 2x4s and four 10 ft 2x4s for my own stall curtains and 10 ftx10 ft worth of floor mats (for tack room/changing room/etc). They're always packed in my trailer. And if I were there, they'd be available for use. (8 ft tall stall AA stall curtains--you guys are over achievers LOL!) The more things people can bring, the less it is going to cost you when you get down there. | |

So to get the number correct, how many "rooms" do you need? 1 stall and 1 tack? I'm not familiar with the area outside of Scotts, so when it comes to hotels maybe someone from the area can give you a heads up on what's around Westworld. - susanrae wrote:

| When we went in 2006, we got a friend to sponsor a toy hauler for us to stay in on the grounds. Rooms can be very expensive and hard to find if you don't get your reservations in NOW! We drove in from Nevada and then had to search the grounds for our "room"!!LOL It was hysterical because we didn't know what the trailer looked like and there was no numbering of the RV spots, but we had a blast looking the show grounds over. We also got in very late at night and no one was at the stall check in and had to hunt for our horse as our trainer had hauled her in days before. A suggestion is to let everyone know where the stalls are located if you one of you know before hand. Just in case no one is there for you to check your horse in. Or have someone willing to be there late at night to help anyone coming in late.
I will try to make it to give a hand if my job allows. My daughter will be here (hopefully!) and is a great hand at braiding, so we may be able to help out in that area.
Can't wait! The excitement is already building and I'm not even showing a horse this year!!LOL

you should see if anyone else is coming from texas, either on here or craigslist, so you can get someone to help out with your gas money to and from the trip. I jsut did that on a trip to washington, and I was able to pay for most of my trip that way.

| Christina- Check with some of the farms up there. I know in CT Trowbridge's Ltd usually goes to Scottsdale, and Strawberry Banks is in NY. They may have room on their trailer, which in the long run may save you a little money, and she'd have company on the long ride down! In CT there's also a farm named Quarry Hill Arabians. Bill Bohl is the trainer there. Not sure if he's coming down, but can't hurt to ask. Kristen | |
