PostSubject: don't no how to get started   Sun Oct 31, 2010 7:24 pm

I haven't shown in over 18 years and things are so different now. I would like to know when I need to start conditioning for halter and everything else there is to know. Please help.

Lot's of information on Halter and other stuff on the Ammy Army site. I would think you will need to condition at least 3 months out. Depends on what you really do with your horse and the age of the horse.

Why not start with conditioning now? The better the conditioning the better it will be for your horse. Some horses take longer to get it all together than others, but the nice part is that once, they are there, it takes a whole lot less effort to maintain them.

There is a lot of great information on this site, and the army is willing to put their collective thinking caps on to help with questions. Wander through the site and feel free to ask about anything that you don't understand or that we haven't touched on as a group yet.

Welcome aboard and have fun!

I too went 20 years without showing - and went back into the ring. I know things have changed - but basically it is the same. I am a hard headed girl so I still want to do it myself! I ride saddleseat - and my biggest dissapointment is that the country english pleasure is almost english pleasure horses- but so what - I like showing and I am still going to show a respectible horse in his level of ability class.

Good luck and "just do it"!

I haven't owned a horse since 1978. My 1 and only time showing in a breed show was a QH Show in 1966.

I've never shown in an Arabian Show in my life. Been working for Arabians, Youth, and, Ammys for over since 1979 in many capacities including as a past Regional officer.

As much as I support the whole Ammy Army movement I cannot do this alone!

I've had 11 knee surgeries including 2 replacements of my right knee and total muscle atrophy from the hip down twice in both legs.

I'm preparing to show in the Cowtown Classic here in Fort Worth on March 18. My trainer, Travis Braden, will have my mare there for the environment and to work her on fresh cows in the cutting practice session.

Travis's wife Kathy is helping my mare and I get ready for the HA Mares SHIH ATH class because Spice and I need to be doing something together while Travis shows her in cutting this year.

I don't at all believe that you're not a true Ammy if you seek help from "professionals". Doing so simply makes you makes your very wise for both you and your horse(s).

So get out there and find someone you believe in and know you can trust. Then, drink in everything they show you and tell you. Might just surprise yourself.

Get the "basic" help you need for both you and your horse then, put that into practice every single day. If I could that's exactly what I'd do.
