PostSubject: Another noob from BC, Canada   Another noob from BC, Canada EmptySun Nov 14, 2010 7:25 pm

Hey all!

My name is Nicole, I live in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, in British Columbia, Canada. I have been around horses all my life ( coming on 29 years) but didn't start with my own until I was 8. My first intro to the Arabian was my 3rd "pony" a beautiful registered Anglo mare ( 3/4 Arab) by Royal Riffal and out of an SM Cyclone daughter. With her I got very interested in arabian bloodlines and my passion for the breed was sparked. I got into dressage and various trainers and riders at the time talked me out of the arabs, I didn't go too far, my next horse was an Anglo Trakehner.. but I couldn't stay away. In 2002 I bought a 2 year old unhandled Andalusian/Arab filly named Reannon, ( Andalusians are my OTHER breed of choice) who from day one had my soul. Her dam is by DWD Tabasco, out of Eagle NA and a Bask daughter. Unfortunately she was not registered and due to her dam not being transfered to the CAHR from the AHA when she was imported, isn't eligible. SO... no regional shows for us. But that's ok, she prefers the trails anyways LOL.

So this year I have been posting on the ABN... was considering breeding my mare to get myself a registerable half arab foal. Had been searching for a stallion that would fit my long list of criteria and as considering breeding in 2011, or 2012. After a long search I had narrowed it down but then came to the conclusion that breeding wasn't what I wanted to do, and thought that eventually I would purchase an older, trained Arab that I could do some of the regional stuff with. It has always been a dream of mine to hit some of the Arab shows, doing things like halter, liberty, most classic, dressage, SH etc.

Fast forward to around a month ago. A distress call went out through the radio waves about an Arabian stallion, a half arab mare and their 3 foals that desperately needed homes. I found photos from an earlier sale add from the summer and saw that the stallion in the summer was looking rough and wondered how he was looking now. After talking to the owner, found out he was basically on deaths door and he needed him to find a good home NOW. So I decided that home would be me. The owner had been unemployed and sick, the stallion was in with the mare and their foals from the past 3 years, and I later found out that the mare wasn't letting the stallion eat, which is why he looked so awful.

All horses got out of there in a matter of days and I am now the very proud owner of a 24 year old Arabian stallion named Nyght Storm. He is by Bask Song (Negatask x Elsynda) and out of Ballena Farreya ( Abs Fancy x Princess Rey). He has over 30 foals on the ground, however unfortunately his previous owner didn't believe in showing or registration so the only foal he has that was registered was from when he was a 2 year old, before that owner had bought him. This boy is the biggest sweetheart, and I am loving every day with him. I keep an updated facebook page about him, his foals and his progress here:
Storm's facebook page

I also own another rescue project from earlier this year, a 3 year old Spanish Mustang named Brave. He was abandoned here on the island ( long story) was in rough shape and had never been handled. He is now in good health and looking for a home.

Other things about me... I'm a Natural Hoof Care provider, have been for almost 6 years, and other than horses am also owned by 3 cats and my sidekick Dacey, a 9 year old Mini Dachshund.

whew... sorry if that was a bit of a book... looking forward to joining the Army!

Nicole

Enjoyed your stallion's FB page. You also have a lot of nice reference photos on there.
Wish there were more people like you with compassion & resources to rescue a few horses.
Glad you're joining us!

Glad to have you with us!! I look forward to hearing more about Nyght Storm. Too bad no more of his foals could be registered.

yes, it's unfortunate that his past owner had no desire to register because he has some NICE babies! I have been playing it in my head that I MIGHT eventually breed him to my mare ( he is after all EXACTLY what I was looking for in a stallion WHEN I was looking)... but that won't be till next spring, if at all... I'm pretty sure I will have him gelded when the time comes because it will just make for an easier life for him and ME! LOL

Spring is not that far away. You can always geld him after your mare is in foal. That is what I did with my 1st stallion (APHA). Someting to think about.
