Hello all and Happy New Year! Empty
PostSubject: Hello all and Happy New Year!   Hello all and Happy New Year! EmptyThu Jan 01, 2009 1:35 pm

Hi everyone, I’m Bobbie. I live in Rapid City, SD and I heard about the Army from an invite on MySpace. As soon as I read about the aim of the Army I couldn’t wait to join! What a WONDERFUL idea! I had a bit of a “small world” feeling when I found out who the Commander is. Dimitri and I had chatted a couple years ago about Arabians and even then he had encouraged me to get out into the show ring. I have to confess that I’ve never shown a horse before, but it’s been a long time dream and goal of mine. (I did show dogs as a kid, does that count? heehee) I will be showing some of my horses in 2009 and I am excited and yeah, pretty nervous too. My day job, if you could call it that, is that I am a professional horse hauler. I’ve moved cross country several times and have hauled my horses everywhere. I had also hauled for friends from time to time. I’ve always enjoyed it so I decided to turn shipping horses into a business. The business grew quickly and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.

And now a bit about my herd. I have 6 horses right now, they are a mix of Arabian, Half-Arabian and Paint:

Leah – 1999 grey purebred Arabian (Jewels Triumph x Portaleah) and is heavily *Bask bred. She’s my Diva and is a total snot, but I get a kick out of her high and mighty attitude. I bought her when she was turning 4. She was halter shown as a weanling until she “quit growing and wasn’t competitive” – to quote her former trainer. She is a towering 14.1hh – ha! I’ve goofed around at times and tried to get her to pose for people. She still remembers how to do it, but I have no clue what I’m doing so I’m sure it’s not as pretty as it could be. She’s by far the smartest horse I’ve worked with. She picked up verbal commands right away and has been skilled at letting herself out of her stall in the past. She’s had two foals, a filly named Jasmine and a colt named Jake.

Jasmine – 2006 grey Paint/Arabian. She is Leah’s first foal by my Paint stallion. (his first foal as well) I had hoped for her sire’s easy going nature with a bit of her mom’s spunk and that’s just what I got. I was there when she was born and she’s pretty special to me. She’s been small all along but she put on a good bit of height this last summer so I’m hoping she’ll end up a bit bigger than her mom. I plan to do some light starting work with her this spring.

Dory – 2004 chestnut Paint/Arabian. Her sire is a Paint stallion that was a multi-CH in Halter, Western and English in the 80s and her dam is a big Arabian mare that was a pleasure show horse any years ago. I bought Dory when she was 8 months old. She is a super flashy girl, red chestnut with 4 high whites, a half bald face ad two blue eyes. Her breeder named her after the blue fish in Finding Nemo. I had planned to change her name after I bought her until I realized that it fit. She is very loveable, but she’s a bit “out there” at times. I’ve ridden her a handful of times and she was coming along nicely, but I decided to “put her away” for a bit longer to give her more time to mature.

Bo – 2001 black Paint stallion. Bo is my baby. I first saw him when he was a month old and I bought him. We’ve been together for a while now. He is a stallion and has been used for breeding, but he’s always been the sweetest horse. He’s given many a pony ride to kids and first time adults and he’s never put a foot wrong with them. I’ve done all of his training and I would classify him as “well started” but I plan to do some more finish work on him this year and I would like to enter him in some local shows for fun this spring/summer.

Sierra – 2004 black tobiano Paint mare. She’s a project horse that I got from a friend who didn’t know anything about training horses. We’ve got some work to do and probably a couple of bad habits to undo. She is a very good looking mare and when she is trained I plan to sell her.

Gryphon – 2007 bay Quarter Horse/Arabian colt. He’s another project that I acquired this past spring. He and another colt were given to me as orphans when they were only 3 and 4 weeks old. It was a lot of fun raising them up. Gryphon started out pretty skittish and not wanting much to do with people while the other colt was a real lover. This little guy did come around and he’s a people lover now too. I found a good home for the other colt, but “Gryph” is still with me.

Not listed is my 7th horse that I’ll be picking up in a little over a week. I’ve been selected as a trainer for the Midwest Mustang Makeover and I’ll be going to Illinois to pick up my wild mustang project very soon! 2009 is gearing up to be a busy year!!
