Make Believe Training Farm Empty
PostSubject: Make Believe Training Farm   Make Believe Training Farm EmptyMon Feb 22, 2010 3:10 pm

Hello to all! I have known Dimitri for several years now and have admired what he has started here. It is long over due. I have been into arabians since 1979 when I bought a 1/2 arab as my first horse. I really didnt like the horse but I have to admit he took care of me on more than one occasion. I went to work at Make Believe Farm in 1980, my first time ever working with horses. Padron almost ate me and for some reason they thought it was funny to stick me to handling 10 two year old colts that were stalled 23 hrs a day. Well I survived, how Im not always sure. I think God protects fools and children and I was both. I loved Salon, so kind and regal, and Tamerlan who also was good to work with though not the type of horse I was drawn to by looks. To see and handle the top mares of the United States meant little at that time but looking back now how can I discribed it any better than it was a gift. I meet David Boggs there as well as Michael Byatt, Jim Panic and of all people Colonel Sanders , yes the Colonel Sanders of KFC in his white suit and all. The mares of MBF, Aswan daughters and the Queens of Tersk Monogramma,Klipsa,Putina,Pustina and Karta....well the Aswans were unbelieveably beautiful but the Queens... well they looked like 1/2 thoroughbreds to me.They were not pretty mares but they did produce over the moon babies. I would have to say that Palitra was my favorite, the Salon daughter and most look alike to Salon.Well i could go on and on here..
I also worked for Bud and Lorraine Soltau . I became a part of their family which I treasure. The road trips that me and Lorraine went on were filled with intelligent conversation and her remembrances of early California like when she sawthe Golden Gate bridge being built. Imagine. She has had some amazing success with her program
I have also worked for Lucy Whittier who I call friend. It was not an easy job for at that time she had 150 horses. I had never worked on a ranch that big before and it was challenging. Her mares were the best and it was there that i feel in love with the two year old imported stallion Regal Actor JP. What he has accomplished with the few get out there is amazing. He is a regal beauty but so intelligent and playful. I am fortunate that I have gotten to bred to him and expect a foal 2010.
I have shown in halter in Northern California. I have beaten every handler in this area including Ken Davis who moved away soon after I had won over him at a show. Coincedences? lol. jk. I am proud of that achievement for who am I but a 5'2 women who has learned how to show on my own with advice from other people.
My love of my life, Sanadika Shaklana and I garnered many blue ribbons and championships. It rather spoiled me. I get surprised when i dont get first or second with other horses for it happened so often with Sana it was almost a forgone conclusion. LOL.
I have not shown a horse for myself or anyone else for five years. The last time I did the mare I was showing had an amazing entrance , showed like a gangbuster and out of seven horses we got six place. I looked at the other horses and thought for sure second or third. .. but sixth ..no way. She looked like an arabian and they were stretchy saddlebred looking horses.I thought okay if that is what they want ill stay home. Now with the Ammy Army I am reenergized to go out and try again. Now I go to enjoy the ring with my horse. Good exersice ,meet some great people and enjoy the day. Who knows what 2010 will bring....
