PostSubject: Halter Attire for Regionals   Wed Jun 17, 2009 6:55 am

I am going to show HA Stock/Hunter ATH at Region 15, the question is what to wear. I don't see specifications in the rules, but there seems to be an awful lot of women showing in black suits. Is it acceptable to wear a blouse with conservative dress pants? How about a short-sleeved or sleeveless blouse? I am thinking of the heat and the abililty to move my arms, but also want to convey respect to the judges and for the show. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

I can't speak to the issue of women's halter fashion but I was debating what to wear last month. I usually wear a navy coat and grey slacks. I considered buying a new suite at Marshall's. I hate suites but I felt I had to conform to current trends. I thought about a Greg Gallun sweater vest but wore the same old coat and slacks. Next time I show halter, I'm wearing a nice dress shirt and slacks and probably no tie. I don't know who the moron is who decided that men should show horses in suites. I like what the Dutch do with their warmbloods - white shirt, white jeans, red tie, running shoes and run like hell. Showing horses should be an atheletic event. Now that the judges have to score movement maybe we should dress such that we can show off good movement.

Thanks for the reply! I feel better about going with a dressy blouse now. I don't feel like I can comfortably move my arms in a suit and it will be so HOT in July!Thank you for the feedback-now I don't feel pressured to go buy a suit!

It's been a couple of years since I actually showed halter, but at the time I wore a nice pair of slacks and a long sleeve cotton blouse. I was comfortable. I don't think ring fashion trends have changed much. If things are a little cool, you could add a nice vest or blazer.

I believe that the only time a suit is preferred is in evening classes. And for women... I'm not even sure. Some of the stuff at Scottsdale was outrageous. lol

I think a neat appearance is first and foremost, understated and not flashy. I typically wore some of my office slacks, vests, and turtlenecks to show in or a black slinky and black show pants...made sure my hair was secured and not too much makeup. That's how I felt most comfortable...here are several examples of how I showed. Night time showing would be more formal.
