| This fall we went camping with the horses at Mojave River Forks Regional Park. The trails were nice with a stream/riverbed to ride through and over. It was great fun.
The site has a large stone horse watering hole at shoulder height (to the horses) for drinking and whatever was in the water, the horses, in general couldn't get enough of it, not sure if it was because it was a constantly running water hole or if there were minerals in the water or what, but they played in it all the time. Notice my sweet little mare (the black) in the group. I am taking the picture.

There was a nice large campsite with water spigots. A nice place to put tents if you want to and large spaces for putting up corrals, parking your trailers and drive through access with a driveway loop.

The trails were easy. No uphill/downhill steep grades to maneuver. Gentle slopes. The only negative to the trails was the large amount of rocks. I would recommend shod horses for the trails at this site. A horse with front shoes would probably do fine also. However, note that MOST of the trails were like this nice rock-free trail shown below - Sometimes you did need to cross rocks to get to the next stretch of rock-free trail

I really liked it that the equestrian facilities are across the highway from the main campsite. There was little chance that hikers or other people would come upon you or your campsite. There is a gate with a lock at the entrance also that we "locked" at night so no-one else could come in. We were the only group there the whole week-end and only ever saw one person - and that was at a distance.
Fees were only around $12.00 per night per unit - We brought our toyhauler and then went back for the horses and it was only $12.00 per night total - so a total of $24.00 for the two nights

Chitos and Casino

A couple of the kids around the fire - and my shoes lol!

Ang' with her Andalusian, Casino - He is woolly already for winter here, but look at those gorgeous markings. This photo does not do him justice!

| Wow....that's awesome, and right in my neck of the woods...I live in Hesperia and would just have to trailer a very short distance...maybe if you go again and the weather is decent we could all go!...do you live nearby as well? |

| Absolutely! - Would love to have you!!! It is super fun to go and it seems that we are on the go all the time! - Next time I will email you.. We're off 138 (the horses are anyways) on the way up to Phelan/Wrightwood - very close - It is about 45 minutes for us to get to the site. Not too bad. Another site that is even nicer IMO is the Mojave Narrows Equestrian area. It is only 30 minutes to get there off of Bear Valley and I like the trails better. |

Thanks that would be great...I haven't trail ridden in sooo long..and I think it's about a 25 minute drive as Summit Valley is "behind" me...would just go the back way to get there! You can reach me at McShaneArabians@aol.com R |
