Michelle, be careful of feeding paprika, as it is on the USEF banned substances list and will test positive! For my bodyclips, I use Queen Helene Hot Oil Treatment and a mayonnaise bath directly afterward, which brings back coat colors on bays, chestnuts and blacks just gorgeous. When you do this, clipping way ahead of time is less necessary.

I do not use a 50 blade, never saw a reason to ~ 40's are sufficient along with a good finisher clipper (I use the Andis Power Trim cordless). I bodyclip with a 10 blade and on the face itself I use a 15 (a 30 with some horses). No matter when you shave, be sure to utilize lights in your stalls which will help insure you have a perfect coat! I keep mine on a timer from 4 PM until midnight every night, and it must be good light which keeps the stalls like daylight.

Good to know about the oil treatment, then I could actually wait until closer to the show to body clip? What would be a good lead time? Should the lights be on now! I do have lights in the barn, flourescent, pretty good, probably not great but could ad some if necessary.

My baby in the avatar is Emira Afire OMA, sired by Baske Afire she is now a 2 yr old. I will show her yearling 3/4 sister sired by Adoniis this year in the auction class.

So I ordered one of those portable hot water heaters from Schneiders so I can give the boy hot water baths in the cold AZ mornings. Hopefully it works and we get some use out of it!

I would love to go to Scottsdale this year. But my filly has just started her training.

As far as it stands now I will be arriving late on Feb 12th. Del will be there on Feb 10th to assist any of the people that are showing on opening day. I will be posting a stall assignement chart shortly that hopefully will make most sense to all of us. I will do this as soon as I have a confirmation from show management where our stalls are located. he show is approaching rapidly and I wish all of our fellow Ammy Army members good luck in getting their horses ready..

We lost our one of our auction fillies last week, she broke her neck in a paddock accident. We still are bringing 3 horses, but definitely without as much wind in our sails.

We feed paprika. I've been told you can feed it closer, but we stop 10 days prior to showing.

I am disappointed to announce, that due to Military obligations, I will not be attending Scottsdale this year. I wish the ENTIRE Army nothing but success and fun and I look forward to reading about your wins. GO GET 'EM!!!!!!

Chris, well..Im not entriely sure yet.

I've had a change of plans as far as going. My friend just started a new job at the airport so he gets free flights. We were planning on coming down somewhere around the 17th and staying with friends of his. But he doesn't get his work schedual for that week until a few days before. So if I can go I will know at the very last minute....but if not I will have my new horse at home to play with!

I just received confirmation from the Scottsdale show that the Ammy Army has been assigned the exact same stalls as last year, which is great news, because our location was perfect. We are in Barn NR32, stalls 1 - 10 and 16 - 20.
If you are not familiar with the grounds, please take a look at http://www.scottsdaleshow.com/map-of-grounds/index.html so you can see a map of the grounds. Barn NR32 is located right under the word "Ins" where you see "Day Haul Inns"

Those barns are veeeeeerrrryyy far away from everything, which can be good or bad, depending on your needs and desires.

We used to hate being far away, because the hard ground causes horses to be footsore. well, since stem cell therapy in 2009, the vet prescribed warmup and walking on firm ground, so now that would be to our advantage.

And it's good to have a quiet place to go away to. They are out by where you can take some nice pictures too. Isn't that where Hess takes people?

Will the Ammy Army be throwing a party of any kind?

I finally bought my plane tickets, I'll be there for the entire show. I'm arriving on the 10th, leaving late on the 21st. If anybody needs anything at all I've got lots of grooming and general barn slave... I mean groom experience I also do a bit of photography if anybody wants some shots, either posed or in a class, just tell me when and where. Those stalls were actually in a great location. The only part I didnt like was having to wash the horses on the gravel.

As far as horses being foot sore by having to walk a distance...well...they ARE horses and shouldn't get foot sore unless they're doing the Tevis!
